A word of warning for anyone clumsy. Get a case or get insurance!

Title above sums it up. In all my years of owning smartphones and being so careful, I have never once smashed a screen through dropping it. Until a few weeks ago. My poor baby fell on the bathroom floor and shattered to pieces. It was ruined.

After many hours of googling, I found that there seems to be NO repair companies in the UK who will replace the screen, and whilst the glass portion can be purchased for under £10 on ebay, its an absolute nightmare to fit.

So reluctantly I contacted Motorola for a repair. After about a week of emails I was told to send it off to Germany and they'll take a look and give me a quote. Fortunately I managed to convince them to cover the postage cost for me :victory: :victory:

So off he went to Germany (yeah, my phones a he!). After what seemed like a lovely holiday of about 10 days (combination of sending it right over the easter bank holiday, and apparently very un-stereotypical German inefficiency) I got my quote back.

OUCH! :crying::crying: €238,04 - Around £180

FOR A SCREEN. ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY POUNDS...

Now I know its my own stupidity, and I can't complain because I'm the dumb idiot who dropped it in the first place, and didn't have a case on it. BUT WOW THATS MORE THAN I WAS EXPECTING.

Which gave me the dilemma of pay it, or sell off my old friend with a smashed screen and buy something else / one without a smashed screen.

I'm reluctantly agreeing to pay it, but I have just ordered a case and tempered glass protector. £30 protecting your phone screen is well worth it! Especially with this phone!

[TOOL][UTILITY] CIKA - Carliv Image Kitchen for Android - unpack/repack boot-recovery

Hi, I present you my latest work: CIKA aka Carliv Image Kitchen for Android . So, what is this? It's a utility (tool) for unpacking and repacking boot and recovery images for many kind of android phones. I made two versions, one for windows users and one for linux users. The windows version works by dragging&dropping over the script you want to use, while the linux version will work with terminal commans (very simple commands though). What's inside? For windows version the scripts are batch files and for linux bash files , but the names are the same and they do same thing: clear_all will clear the working folder deleting any unpacked boot/recovery folder, but not the boot or recovery files (original or repacked). image_info will print on screen all informations about the image you want to check (sizes, offsets, cmdline, etc.) and all these infos will be saved in a text file (which will be deleted when you clear the folder - see point 1). This is handy if you don't...

Part 2 of Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina keeps the Harry Potter influence going

Everyone who’s been enjoying the magician-in-training aspect of Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina should be happy to know that the second half of the show’s first season doubles down on its debt to Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer while also drawing some on Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings . One of the most enduring ideas popularized by George Lucas and J.R.R. Tolkien is that world-changing powers can easily be misused. In this latest Sabrina run, the heroine’s decision to sign her name in “The Book of the Beast” at the end of the season’s first half means she’s now one of the most capable witches on Earth, and those new abilities are changing her. Chilling Adventures debuted last October with 10 episodes, introducing... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts http://bit.ly/2OQyWSY via IFTTT

Windows 10 will soon include ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ kaomoji

Microsoft is making it easier for you to send ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ or (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ kaomoji from a Windows 10 PC to friends or coworkers. In a new test build of Windows 10 ( 18305 ), Microsoft has added kaomoji face characters that are accessible through the same existing emoji shortcut (win+period). While you’ll be able to pick from a number of kaomoji, the feature will also include quick access to em dash and other symbols. If you’re a writer, you already know how difficult it is to remember the alt key codes for the em dash, so this will certainly simplify things. Microsoft is planning to introduce this with its codename 19H1 update, expected to arrive in March or April 2019. Alongside the kaomoji additions, Microsoft is also testing a new...
